Submerged British Humor

The Britons can make anyone laugh. This movie, "Submarine", however, is more of an American movie where people speak with an English accent. This could partially be explained by the disclaimer "Ben Stiller Presents" on top of the movie box. If he had as much to do in this one as he had with "Greenberg" then I am not surprised.

I guess you could watch this one, a movie about selfish boy who finds happiness in the end. Why not, right?

Solar location unknown

Probably the greatest Swedish singing band of latter years; Kent, have released "En plats i solen" and I had great expectations! But alas, it does not really fly anymore. Ever since "Tillbaka till samtiden" the band has gotten progressively mediocre. Unfortunately.

Maybe I'll give this one a run through again, but I predict that Joakim Berg will soon embark on a solo carrier to try and find that sound of his again...

Hurting lyrics by happiness... Li

Second and better album by Lykke Li Timotej Zachrisson called "Wounded Rhymes" beats the first one "Youth Novels" by miles and miles. From song one you can tell she improved the style and started to make great music.

Let us look forward to the next album, hopefully as innovative and catchy as this one. Check it out! "Silent My Song" and "Youth knows no pain" should be heard!

Broken albino sperm whale

Moby's latest release "Destroyed" sounds totally like Moby, so if you like him... Honestly, the album grows on you and 15 songs for almost 72 minutes by this Juggernaut? It will put you in your place fo'sho'.

Razzia shut down

The Cinema/Nightclub Razzia in downtown Zürich had it's closure party last weekend, and not a moment too soon I would say. The floor was, imagine my surprise, tilting in a not very refreshing angle, that made vertically challenged Swiss girls appear normal-sized for a second. I can say, it was quite an illusion (disappointment).

Good riddance. Although I did enjoy the Brady Bunch playing on the projector - but the music was awful. And the security guard was smoking pot. Which was cool because the scenario adds irony juxtaposed to the name of the club, and also because drugs are cool.

Wahlberg&Bale fighting

A funny, violent and well played movie by the creator of Three Kings, David O Russel. "The Fighter" will grip you by the neck from the first scence, where Bale puts his money where his mouth is (once again) and brings home the bacon. A bacon with which he later makes a delicious proverbial omelet together with Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg keeps a steady basal level of acting no more than necessary, and it works perfectly, despite him having the lead role. Not only in the movie, but also in the family.

Based on a true story, on top of it all.

Only in Synecdoche, New York

Written and directed by Charlie Kaufman, so I can promise you that things will get weird and strangely thought-provoking. Leading actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman - possibly the best actor of all time throughout the Universe in all parallel dimensions, so at least there will be good acting. And the rest? Absolutely phenomenal, a must see and re-see. See?

A defined kind of delivery by a crazy older woman

Lady GaGa's new album "Born this Way" is a 23 song CD with surprisingly few remixes and new beats. In the early songs even Dubstep is incorporated, together with a lot of religion and Jesus-references. Dubstep and Jesus. What more do you want? Try out the song "Americano" if you dare.

Hive: clubbing in a high-way back-alley

If you are looking for über-Techno like nowhere else, I suggest Hive. On the 8th of Juli, Gui Borrato came by and hosted the best techno/electro I and probably many of my fellow hivesmen ever experienced in our short dilettante lives. Go there, and bring money. Do not bring your poor friends.

Ice cold primates visualizing fellatio

The Arctic Monkey's new album "Suck it and see" will knock your socks off, but not in the normal Arctic Monkey manner. Some of the attitude and sass has been replaced for more emo-ish songs that tend to flirt with the echoic guitars of Kings of Leon. Nevertheless, oh, nevertheless, this album is one for your ears only. Check it!

An armada of depressed canines

Fleet Foxes are out with their second album "Helplessness Blues" to follow the epic self-titled album that turned music on its head. Big shoes to fill and it seems that Robin Pecknold has as well been turned slightly on the cerebral side. But it still works, however competition with Band of Horses will be a future battle to battle. What's more, the bearded gentlemen are now also competing with Kings of Leon for the best bard. The music will make the difference.

Providing a little peanut butter

The PBJ-Swedes Peter, Björn and John have released "Gimme Some" and if you listen to this you will hear how Swedes sound when they attempt to speak English. And it is not an altogether bad band! They bring home the bacon if you are into indie music. Try it out!

Kill all the hipsters in Amsterdam

You can not, for everything that is holy, miss this event if you are in Amsterdam. What you get is basically to dance to all the music I have reviewed on this "blog" of mine. The Killers, Kings of Leon, Phoenix and so on and on and on...
And you get to dance to it! Stupidly! Like Hipsters! What more do you want old man??

Amsterdam: Sugar Factory Sundays with wicked jazz

Let there be jazz.
Down town Amsterdam is always open. Even on the day that God rested you can party. Sundays at the sugar factory promises sounds of wicked jazz, meaning you will see singers, saxophonists, rappers and a DJ simultaneously working the music for the dance floor. And most likely, you will also see (like I saw) people on crack or Ecstasy dancing like they were on crack or Ecstasy all night to sounds you never thought could be compiled. When in Rome, one must roam.
And he saw that it was wicked.

Depp, Cruz and boats (and 4 Caribbean pirates)

Disney's mini-series cash cow Pirates of the Caribbean is now into its quadriquel phase, probably going for a pentiquel if we do not watch out. As usual there will be good effects (this time: Johnny Depp's nose in 3D), some laughter and over acting by the same Mr. Depp. But do not let this stop you. Maybe I'd go for piratebay rather than pay at the counter, but then again, downloading 3D goggles is not as easy as it sounds. And, don't miss the final scene after the end credits...

All in all? It's a fun movie!

Rocking Kills and may do harm to your environment

The Kills release their fifth album "Blood pressures" and concomitantly, they battle The White Stripes for the hardest rockyiest duo throne. A formidable adversary to the pseudo-incestuous Whites but no where near to their third album "No Wow". Still listenable and, what's more, repeatable.

Wasting light and fighting the foo at the same time

I pity the Foo Fighter's haters out there. They may be a little soft on the lyrics, but the guitars do their work quite well. Not to mention the drumming by Taylor Hawkins or the fact that they had a band member called "Pat Smear". In the deluxe/XXXtravaganza/bonus/Ultimate/überscheisse-version we also get a Deadmau5 remix of "Rope". I'd give it a go. I actually did.

The Yes Men attempt to Fix The World

And they come very, very close to - in fact - fixing the entire planet. These guys are woven by a moral and comical fiber that coalesce in an epic piece of motion picture. If you only see the first few minutes of the movie, you will be hooked - like on crack, I tells ya.

The movie is funny, intelligent and it makes you go "... huh... I did not know that...". It has basically all the goods.
